Position Overview
RiverPeak Health is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to support the organization through its startup, licensing, regulatory, and operational readiness phase prior to hospital opening. This position will serve as the designated Pharmacist-in-Charge for RiverPeak Health and will be responsible for leading and coordinating key pharmacy-related regulatory, licensing, compliance, formulary, vendor, and operational preparation activities.
This is a PRN, as-needed position during the startup phase. The Pharmacist-in-Charge must maintain a minimum of five hours of availability per week, with the ability to provide additional hours as regulatory deadlines, licensing activities, vendor coordination, and operational readiness priorities require.
The PIC will play a critical role in ensuring RiverPeak Health is prepared to open safely, compliantly, and on schedule. This role requires a pharmacist who is organized, responsive, self-directed, comfortable working in a developing healthcare environment, and capable of maintaining persistent and professional follow-up with regulatory agencies, government offices, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
There is potential for the individual serving in this PRN Pharmacist-in-Charge role to transition into a full-time Director of Pharmacy position as RiverPeak Health moves into active hospital operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The PIC will provide pharmacy leadership and subject matter expertise during RiverPeak Health’s startup phase, with primary responsibility for pharmacy licensure, regulatory readiness, vendor coordination, formulary development, and preparation for hospital opening.
Primary Duties
Serve as RiverPeak Health’s designated PIC in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, Wyoming Board of Pharmacy requirements, DEA requirements, and accreditation standards
Lead and coordinate pharmacy-related startup activities necessary for RiverPeak Health’s planned hospital opening
Prepare, submit, track, and follow up on required pharmacy licenses, registrations, applications, and approvals, including Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy licensure and DEA registration
Maintain persistent, professional, and timely follow-up with regulatory agencies, government offices, vendors, consultants, and other external stakeholders to help keep key applications and approvals on schedule
Lead development of RiverPeak Health’s initial medication formulary in collaboration with executive leadership, medical staff, nursing leadership, and other clinical stakeholders
Assist with contracting and implementation of pharmaceutical distributors, wholesalers, purchasing partners, consultants, and pharmacy-related vendors
Develop, review, and recommend pharmacy policies, procedures, workflows, and standards for medication ordering, storage, dispensing, distribution, administration, documentation, security, and disposal
Advise leadership on pharmacy space, equipment, technology, inventory, staffing, security, storage, medication safety, and operational needs
Support pharmacy-related accreditation readiness, survey preparation, mock survey activities, and compliance reviews
Support planning for the transition from startup pharmacy readiness into active hospital pharmacy operations
Perform other duties as assigned to support RiverPeak Health’s startup, licensure, regulatory, and operational readiness needs
Qualifications
Required
Graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy
Current pharmacist license in good standing, or ability to obtain licensure, in the State of Wyoming
Eligibility to serve as PIC under applicable Wyoming laws and regulations
Knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations, medication management, and pharmacy regulatory requirements
Ability to support pharmacy licensure, DEA registration, formulary development, vendor coordination, policy development, and pharmacy operational readiness prior to hospital opening
Ability to maintain a minimum of five hours of availability per week, with additional availability as needed
Preferred
Prior experience serving as a PIC, Director of Pharmacy, or hospital pharmacy leader
Experience opening, developing, expanding, or restructuring pharmacy services
Experience with Wyoming Board of Pharmacy processes, DEA registration, controlled substance compliance, hospital accreditation, or survey readiness
Experience developing hospital formularies, pharmacy policies, procedures, and medication-use systems
Experience contracting with pharmaceutical distributors, wholesalers, purchasing partners, or group purchasing organizations
Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations
Current pharmacist license in good standing, or ability to obtain licensure, in the State of Wyoming
Ability to meet requirements to serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge
Ability to support DEA registration and controlled substance compliance activities as required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of federal and state pharmacy laws, Wyoming Board of Pharmacy requirements, DEA requirements, controlled substance regulations, hospital pharmacy operations, medication-use systems, and accreditation standards
Understanding of formulary development, medication safety, medication storage, dispensing, labeling, distribution, controlled substance management, and pharmacy compliance
Ability to develop practical pharmacy policies, procedures, workflows, and documentation standards for a startup hospital environment
Strong organization, follow-through, written communication, verbal communication, and documentation skills
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, track deadlines, and drive projects forward with limited day-to-day supervision
Professional persistence in following up with regulatory agencies, government offices, vendors, consultants, and other stakeholders
Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, administrators, vendors, consultants, regulators, and other internal and external partners
Comfort working in a developing healthcare environment where systems, workflows, and processes are being built
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
This position may include remote work, onsite work, meetings, phone calls, document preparation, regulatory correspondence, vendor coordination, and occasional travel as needed. Work may occur in office, clinical, pharmacy, construction/startup, or healthcare operational environments.
The role may require flexibility in schedule based on regulatory deadlines, licensing agency availability, vendor timelines, operational readiness needs, and hospital opening priorities.
This position may require sitting, standing, walking, computer work, document review, phone communication, participation in meetings, and occasional movement through hospital or pharmacy-related spaces.
