Our Story

Riverton, Wyoming lacks critical and basic hospital services. No babies have been born here for ten years, and patients are flown to distant hospitals for the most minor procedures.

Formerly known as Riverton Medical District, RiverPeak Health is a nonprofit driven by a devoted team of volunteers who have spent the last eight years working to bring quality, full-service healthcare back to our community. It was through the generous support of community members that we were able to fund a comprehensive feasibility study, which confirmed the urgent need for a new hospital in our area. Both that study and an independent audit of its findings underscored what we already knew — that restoring essential healthcare services in Riverton is vital to the health and future of our region.

This project has been sanctioned by our community as well as the State of Wyoming. The reduction of rural health services is a matter of great concern, both here and across the country. We have been recognized by several esteemed publications, including The Wall Street Journal and The Atlantic, as one of the only groups to bring a solution to our community.

The new hospital will provide essential services for 22,000 people in the greater Riverton area, including the Wind River Reservation. Our focus includes restoring level III trauma care, 24/7 surgery availability, labor and delivery suites, and orthopedic services. This effort will also support 140 new jobs and generate more than $25 million of yearly economic activity in our community.

It is vital to our mission to be locally owned and locally governed. We are proud to be an affiliate of Billings Clinic, who has a long-standing commitment of partnering with local, independent hospitals. Another essential partner is USDA, who awarded us the largest community facilities loan ever given in Wyoming. Our community has donated over $2 million to the effort.

Finding the additional millions of dollars needed for this project has not been easy. We are actively seeking other funding sources and welcome any form of support to ensure the success of this crucial project.

We are not just building a hospital, but are passionately providing a lifeline for our family, friends, and neighbors. We believe strongly in restoring essential medical services to our community and improving rural healthcare access in Wyoming.

FAQs

  • The hospital will be owned by our locally governed nonprofit organization. We are affiliated with Billings Clinic, but not owned by them.

  • Construction of the hospital officially began on December 12, 2024. The combined hospital and clinic are scheduled for completion in late 2026. Contact us anytime with questions, and follow along here and on our social media accounts for updates.

  • We have begun hiring for select leadership roles as we build the RiverPeak Health team. Additional positions will be posted as we move closer to our late 2026 opening. Visit our careers page to apply for current openings or submit the interest form for future opportunities.

  • The new hospital will have 13 inpatient rooms (including 2 ICU rooms and 2 labor, delivery, postpartum & recovery rooms). The ER includes 5 exam rooms, 2 trauma bays, and a triage room. Our clinic space will have 13 exam rooms and 2 procedure rooms, and there will be 2 operating rooms in the surgical suite.

  • The size was based on a detailed feasibility study and right-sized to meet our community’s needs. It also aligns with USDA loan requirements and sustainable operational planning. It will include the essential services our community is currently lacking. Most importantly, the facility is being designed with future growth in mind, allowing for expansion as community needs evolve.

  • Yes. While we may occasionally partner with regional specialists to enhance access to care, the hospital will be staffed by local providers. Our focus is on recruiting and retaining healthcare professionals who live in Fremont County. We’re committed to building a medical team that understands and is invested in our community.

  • The hospital is on the north side of Riverton on land we have purchased in the Eastern Shoshone Business Park. The business park is just north of Walmart. The address is 2505 N Federal Blvd.
